Premier League outfit Burnley are on the verge of signing Montpellier Hérault SC defender Maxime Estève (21) for a fee of 12M€, reports L’Équipe.  As previously reported in GFFN, Vincent Kompany’s side are among several clubs looking to secure the young Frenchman’s signature and are ready to act in the January transfer window to steal a march on the competition.

The left-footed center-back, who also has attracted interest from Serie A and other Premier League clubs,  has made 11 Ligue 1 appearances for Michel Der Zakarian’s side this season, providing one goal and one assist as Montpellier sits precariously in 12th position in the table, just two points ahead of Lyon in the relegation play-off spot.

When questioned on whether Estève would be included in the squad for this weekend’s fixture at home to LOSC Lille, Der Zakarian was emphatic:

“Why wouldn’t he play? He’ll play against Lille, we’ll see if there’s a departure. For now, he’s down to play. If he leaves, it’ll be Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. My wish is for him to stay here, If the club receives a good offer and he wants to leave, we will have to find a capable replacement and wish him all the best for the future.”
