Burnley star and former Red Devil youth player Anass Zaroury opts for Morocco, replacing injured Amine Harit | OneFootball

Former Charleroi striker Anass Zaroury has been called up for the Morocco national team to replace the injured Amine Harit. Zaroury joined Burnley in the summer, and the 22 year-old has gone on to score six goals and provide two assists in 14 matches. The attacker, born in Mechelen, has been capped 7 times by the Belgian U21’s.

Last season Zaroury scored five goals in 33 matches for the Zebras, earning him a move to Burnley to join former Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany. The attacker will join Genk’s 18 year-old Bilal El Khannous in Qatar.

Belgium gave the required documentation to allow Zaroury to switch his allegiance to the Atlas Lions. Ironically, he will face the Red Devils on the 27th of November in the second round of group matches in group F. Morocco open their tournament against 2018 finalists Croatia. The other team in Group F is World Cup debutants Canada, who Morocco will face in the final round of group fixtures.

The Atlas Lions have only reached the knockout phases of a World Cup once, in Mexico 1986, where they lost to eventual runners up West Germany.
