If James Trafford is sold this summer then Burnley will turn to AFC Bournemouth in search of a replacement.

AFC Bournemouth's Mark Travers is understood to be of consideration for Burnley if they are to cash in on the services of James Trafford this summer.

This is according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who has reported on his Patreon account that Scott Parker is considering a reunion with the Republic of Ireland international stopper, where he was the ex-England midfielder's first-choice in their 2021-22 promotion-winning Championship campaign.

The 25-year-old has struggled for game time at the Cherries since Parker took them back to the top flight in 2022.

The jump back to the top tier unfortunately saw Parker sacked after just four games, and Travers has struggled to regain his place amid the arrival of current Bournemouth captain Neto in goal.

Next season doesn't appear much brighter for his first-team chances, and a move away from the Vitality Stadium may prove an enticing prospect.

If Trafford departs Turf Moor, then Burnley's transfer plans will change dramatically regarding the addition of a new goalkeeper.

The 21-year-old has most recently been linked to Newcastle United, with the Clarets demanding £30 million from the Magpies. Having been signed for £19 million last window, if they were able to secure this price-tag, then it would prove to be a pivotal piece of business.

However, this would leave them a goalkeeper short, and despite the arrival of experienced Czechia stropper Vaclav Hladky following his exit from Ipswich Town, Nixon reports that that Parker would want another addition in goal.

Previously, ex-Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodák was on Burnley's radar, as per Nixon, but his terms were offputting to the Lancashire outfit.

Nevertheless, Burnley remain interested in the Slovakian goalkeeper and would consider returning for him if Trafford departs. The funds from the sale of their current number one would make a deal for the former Fulham player financially viable.

Additionally, Travers is another name on Burnley's shortlist, with Parker particularly keen on reuniting with him.

Travers would likely come at a cut-price fee, given his limited playing time over the past two seasons, yet his previous exploits in the division suggest he would be a valuable asset.

At just 25 years of age, he has a long career ahead and, if he can make the step-up to the Premier League in the future, he could prove to be a real steal for Burnley.

However, the key to any of these deals is the departure of Trafford, and at present, no such news appears imminent.

If Trafford departs Turf Moor, then the signing of Travers from Bournemouth should prove to be a great addition.

Having only had one season in his career as a number one, the 25-year-old needs guaranteed game time, and Parker would surely be willing to provide this.

Statistically, his 2021-22 season for the Cherries was impressive, as Travers conceded just 39 league goals in 45 games, keeping 20 clean sheets in the process.

His underlying statistics only furthered his impressive year as he made 119 saves at a percentage of 75.3% and provided a decent passing accuracy from the back of 67.2%.

Of course, there are still elements he needs to work on, but a reunion with his former head coach could prove useful and Travers could take another club up to the Premier League.

This will be reliant on the departure of Trafford though, and without this, it could prove another stale season at the Vitality for Mark Travers, having started to show promise on loan at Stoke City last season before being recalled prematurely.
