Premier League side Burnley are reportedly not expected to return with another swoop for Liverpool attacker Harry Wilson this summer.

According to The Athletic, Burnley have ‘cooled’ their interest in Wilson following their failed attempt to sign him in 2020.

The report claims Burnley had a £12m offer rejected by Liverpool for Wilson and they were not prepared to match his £15m valuation, which is the price the Reds are continuing to ask for.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

It is a shame that Wilson was not able to secure a transfer to Burnley last summer. The Welsh international was unable to find a Premier League club willing to pay what Liverpool wanted and ended up having to drop back down to the Championship with Cardiff. This meant that he had to take a step down in his development as he spent the previous season on loan with Bournemouth in the Premier League, potentially gearing himself for regular football in the top-flight for years to come.

Wilson already proved his quality at Championship level in the 2018/19 campaign with Derby. He produced an incredible 16 goals and four assists for Frank Lampard’s side, earning himself the Premier League loan with Bournemouth. Once again, Wilson has caught the eye in the second tier with seven goals and 11 assists for Cardiff this season, which shows that he is a step above that standard of football.

Hopefully, more Premier League teams will be interested in signing Wilson this summer despite Burnley being unwilling to go back in for him. Wilson may not be able to get regular first-team football at Liverpool and, at the age of 24, a transfer to a top-flight club where he has a good chance of being a starting player could be ideal for his career.
