Burnley reach agreement to sign Maxime Estève on loan from Montpellier

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Burnley have reached an agreement to sign Maxime Estève (21) from Montpellier. The French defender is set to become the latest player to join Vincent Kompany’s team at Turf Moor.

The deal which will see the Montpellier centre-back arrive in Lancashire will be a loan move with a mandatory purchase option, according to Tavolieri. However, the mandatory option will only be exercised if certain conditions are met during Estève’s loan move to the Premier League club. Montpellier rejected an offer worth €8m from Udinese for the defender in the summer transfer window.

A loan not a permanent move

L’Équipe had previously reported that Burnley had submitted an offer of €12m to sign Estève from Montpellier. However, it now appears that the move will be a loan that only becomes permanent should certain clauses be met during the loan.  Estève’s contract is set to expire in 2025 so MHSC will be hoping to sell the defender to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
