Kompany has been linked with the vacancy at Bayern Munich, with reports suggesting a move to the Allianz Arena is close to being agreed.

The 38-year-old has spent two years at Turf Moor, taking on the role following their relegation from the Premier League in 2022.

He guided the Lancashire outfit to promotion to the top flight at the first attempt, but then oversaw their relegation back to the second tier last season with a 19th place finish in the table.

Kompany’s move to Bayern Munich has yet to be made official, but it is understood that an agreement is close.

The Burnley boss is planning to bring Floribert Ngalula and Mike Jackson with him to the Bundesliga side.

Craig Bellamy is also set to depart the Championship side, alongside goalkeeper coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar, to join Dutch giants Ajax.

This means Burnley must start planning for a new managerial appointment, with Hull City’s Andy Dawson believed to be in the frame for the impending vacancy.

Dawson’s previous managerial experience includes working as the caretaker manager at the Tigers prior to Liam Rosenior’s arrival as the permanent choice for the role.

He was part of Rosenior’s backroom staff prior to the 39-year-old’s departure at the end of the campaign just finished.

It remains to be seen whether Dawson will be kept on as a part of Tim Walter’s backroom team, with the German coach set to be appointed as Rosenior’s replacement.

However, the opportunity to take over at Turf Moor may make that uncertainty irrelevant.

The 45-year-old is on the shortlist of potential candidates, but it is unclear if there are other names ahead of him in the running for Kompany’s job, provided he departs for Bayern.

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley record

Kompany oversaw a successful first season at Turf Moor, managing the team to a 101 points tally on their way to clinching the Championship title.

However, the team fared much worse in the Premier League, struggling to compete in the top flight.

The team’s relegation was confirmed with multiple games spare, with the club never looking likely to survive in the division.

Despite the difficulty in the Premier League, Kompany has earned the chance to step up to the German top flight and lead the six times European champions.

Andy Dawson would be a risky appointment for Burnley

Kompany lacked experience when he was appointed by Burnley in 2022, but he at least had worked with Anderlecht prior to taking over the first team squad.

Meanwhile, Dawson’s experience is far more limited, having only overseen a few games as manager, with most of his coaching work coming as an assistant.

This would be a big risk, especially given the club will surely be targeting promotion to the Premier League next year.

Losing Kompany is a big blow, as he has been there and done that in the Championship before, but there are surely better-equipped candidates for the role than Dawson to replace him.
