Burnley confirm signing of Swiss international Zeki Amdouni | OneFootball

Switzerland international Zeki Amdouni has joined Burnley on a five-year contract, the club has confirmed via their official website.

Amdouni has spent the early years of his career in the Swiss leagues, beginning at Etoile Carouge. He moved to his current club Lausanne-Sport in 2021, spending last season on loan at Basel.

The forward made an impression last term. He scored 22 goals in all competitions and was the joint-top marksman in the Europa Conference League with seven.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a similarly impressive start to life on the international stage. He has netted five goals in five games, most recently notching a brace in a 2-2 draw with Romania.

He’s now set for the next step in his career. Amdouni has completed a move to Burnley for an undisclosed fee.

Amdouni said: “I’m very happy to be here and I’m excited to start.

“The last two months were very important to me. I spoke to the coach (Vincent Kompany), and he really wanted me. Also, I really wanted to work with him – for me, that’s the most important.”

Burnley returned to the Premier League last season at the first time of asking, finishing ten points clear at the top of the Championship table.

Despite this, new recruits will be necessary at Turf Moor. Loanee Nathan Tella, who was their top scorer last year with 19 in all competitions, has returned to parent club Southampton.

Amdouni becomes the Clarets’ fifth signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Jordan Beyer, Dara O’Shea, Michael Obafemi and Lawrence Vigouroux.

A move for England Under-21 star James Trafford is also reportedly close to completion.

Burnley kick off their campaign with a home clash against reigning champions Manchester City.

They were due to play fellow newly-promoted club Luton Town the following weekend, but the fixture has been postponed.
