Burnley have confirmed the signing of new goalkeeper Max Weiss as James Trafford continues to be linked with a move to Newcastle United.
The 21-year-old has joined in a deal worth £4.3 million and has penned a four-year contract at Turf Moor (BBC Sport).
Weiss came through TSG Hoffenheim and SV Sandhausen academies before joining Bundesliga.2 side Karlsruher in 2019.
He progressed through their youth ranks before establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the 2024-25 campaign.
The Germany U20 international made 34 appearances last term, keeping eight clean sheets to help his team secure an eighth-place finish.
Weiss has now made a big step up in his career by joining Burnley, who earned automatic promotion to the Premier League last season.
The addition of a new goalkeeper suggests that Trafford could leave this summer.
Newcastle failed to sign Trafford last summer, but they haven’t given up their pursuit.
Burnley are demanding £40m, despite the goalkeeper having two years left on his contract.
Newcastle already have Nick Pope, but manager Eddie Howe wants another goalkeeper to compete with him for a starting spot.
