Burnley have made a public statement, confirming that defender CJ Egan-Riley has turned down the club’s contract extension offer and is pursuing “an opportunity in France“. It was reported by Foot Mercato this evening that the England youth international has accepted a contract offer which will run until 2029.“Despite the club’s commitment to securing CJ’s long-term future and the substantial investment offered, CJ has made the decision to pursue an opportunity in France,” read a communiqué published by Burnley on Wednesday evening. Racing Club de Strasbourg were also a serious contender for the Englishman, but Marseille look set to overtake Les Alsatians with La Provence reporting that negotiations have seriously accelerated in the last few hours. Les Olympiens have almost finalised a deal for fellow Englishman Angel Gomes (24), who looks set to sign a three-year contract with OM and has already completed a medical in the city today.
