The Clarets are currently looking for a replacement to Vincent Kompany following his move to Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

The Belgian spent two years at Turf Moor, leaving the team back in the Championship after coming 19th in the Premier League table last season.

A number of names have been linked with the role, with Ruud van Nistelrooy emerging as a potential candidate for the vacancy.

But Lampard and Henry have also been mentioned as potential successors to Kompany at the Lancashire outfit.

McCoist has suggested that Lampard or Henry would both be good appointments by Burnley.

He believes that both candidates are quite impressive, and have the potential to shake things up at Turf Moor after a disappointing return to the top flight led to relegation last season.

“I would love to see either Frank Lampard or Thierry Henry get a go,” said McCoist.

“There’s something about Thierry Henry I really like – he’s a smashing fella, and I’d like to see him get that job on his own.

“It would be interesting to see whether he’d do something different to Vincent Kompany and if he’d go in there and shake things up a little bit.

“I think either of those two would impress me, and I’d like to see either of them get it.”

Kompany took over at Burnley two years ago following their relegation to the Championship under interim coach Mike Jackson.

Beligan was the permanent replacement to Sean Dyche, which were big shoes to fill after the veteran coach spent 10 years with the club.

However, a 101 points haul in his first season earned him a lot of plaudits, as the team clinched the Championship title on their way to promotion.

Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard's managerial careers

Lampard and Henry have both been out of work for over a year, with their last coaching jobs coming at Chelsea and Montreal Impact.

The former Chelsea midfielder previously managed Everton and Derby County, as well as another stint with the Blues.

Meanwhile, Henry’s experience also includes a short period at Monaco, as well as being assistant manager with the Belgian national team.

Van Nistelrooy has also spent a year out of management, with his last role being with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, where he led them to a second place finish in his sole season with the Eredivisie outfit.

Van Nistelrooy has the best pedigree of these candidates

All three of these candidates have spent more than 12 months out of management, which is a slight concern, but one Burnley should be able to look past.

Lampard’s last stint at Chelsea, as well as his time at Everton, was simply not good enough, and should put a lot of teams off appointing him.

Meanwhile, Henry’s time in management saw him struggle a lot as well, particularly with his relationship to his players.

Van Nistelrooy enjoyed a moderately successful 12 months at PSV, and led the team to domestic success in the Dutch cup, so has the best looking CV of these three prospective candidates.
