Alessandro Buongiorno believes Italy are laying the foundations for their new era with back-to-back Nations League victories over France and Israel.
The Nazionale took full control of this Nations League Group A2 with their second victory in as many games.
After coming back to shock France 3-1 in Paris, they saw Israel off 2-1 on neutral turf in Budapest thanks to Davide Frattesi and Moise Kean goals.
However, there was again no clean sheet, as Mohammad Abu Fani scored after a free kick was flicked on at the 90th minute.
“We are very happy, we knew it was not going to be easy, as the opponents are tough and provided difficulties, but what matters is that we emerged victorious,” Buongiorno told RAI Sport.
“We try to work with the coach in training to improve the movements, both attacking and defending. It is important to play and train, I think it went well.”
They have shifted over to a 3-5-2 formation, although Giacomo Raspadori was a very mobile second striker who often dropped deep to work with the midfield.
Meanwhile, Alessandro Bastoni took on the role that injured Riccardo Calafiori had against France, pushing up to effectively become an additional midfielder when in possession.
Italy are clear at the top of Nations League Group A2 on six points, followed by both France and Belgium on three, while Israel have zero points.
