In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich
Hard not to pick the Klassiker this week, especially after Stefan went for Leverkusen against Schalke. Having said that, the game finally needs to live up to its hype, which ultimately means Dortmund need to show up. The Black and Yellows were good against Sevilla this week but Bayern seem to be resurgent and I just feel that the Rekordmeister will once again edge this match. Also one to watch, and it might be the better game, is the Rheinderby between Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Köln.
Manu’s predictions:
Although all eyes will be on “Der Klassiker” or the other derby on Sunday, dare I suggest fans of the league keep one eye on Schalke’s trip to the BayArena this weekend. Hosts Bayer Leverkusen have just appointed one of the most interesting head coaches in the Bundesliga in years – arguably the most high-profile since Pep Guardiola or Carlo Ancelotti arrived in Munich – and in Xabi Alonso the club will be hoping to see an instant turnaround in fortunes. Against lowly Schalke, they may just get it.
Stefan’s predictions:
Scores after MD8: Manu – 40, Stefan – 31.
