In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich
My game of the week is Wolfsburg against Bayern Munich. I feel that Bayern have to win this game to truly calm things down at the Säbener Straße. The result against Mainz in the Pokal midweek was certainly encouraging but I still think there are weaknesses to explore by Niko Kovac’s side. Kovac will be motivated to get something out of this game as he faces his former employer. Bayern, in turn, will have noticed his recent comments that Munich is easier to play at in the moment than at the Alte Försterei in Berlin. Either way, this will have plenty of storylines and the potential for an upset.
Manu’s Predictions:
Stefan’s Game of the Week: FC Köln vs RB Leipzig
My game of the week is a fantastic tie between Köln and RB Leipzig. Not is it a delicious contest between two intriguing teams on the pitch – and another stern test for Marco Rose’s side – but it should prove to be a feisty encounter between one of the league most traditional clubs and the young upstarts from Saxony.
Stefan’s Predictions:
Scores after MD17: Manu – 112, Stefan – 95.
