Andrej Kramarić (TSG Hoffenheim)

It’s one thing dominating a game and blowing the opposition away when you’re part of a superstar cast. It’s even more impressive to inspire your team-mates to a huge win when you aren’t.

Two days before Bayern Munich tore Bayer Leverkusen apart, TSG Hoffenheim did the same thing to Köln to kick off the Bundesliga weekend. And Andrej Kramarić was at the heart of it all.

Injury troubles aside, the Croatian has been one of the best players in Germany for years now and the lack of noise that surrounds his performances continues to surprise.

Kramarić was at it again on Friday night, assisting Hoffenheim’s opener with a superb through-ball that sliced through the Köln defence. Ihlas Bebou did the rest.

He was involved in the move for the second goal and brilliantly attracted three defenders before releasing David Raum to create the third. Hoffenheim scored their fourth without Kramarić’s influence but he did lay on the fifth, scored by Stefan Posch, with an inch-perfect cross.

No player on Friday had as many shots (four) or shots on target (three) and nobody created more chances.

“I’d like to highlight Andrej in particular today,” coach Sebastian Hoeneß said after the win.

“He’s laid on two goals again and he was everywhere, working back and defending, his running up front, he was a goal threat as well. A super performance.”

Kramarić now has six assists for the season, the joint most in the league, and continues to be a transformative force for Hoffenheim. They’ll just be hoping he can stay fit for the whole season this time around.
