With David Fofana deemed surplus to requirements in Chelsea’s ever-growing Premier League squad, the Ivory Coast forward is still expected to depart.
Deadline day deals with Hoffenheim and Sunderland broke down but there is still interest from across Europe for a loan deal.
Fofana is expected to choose between Turkey, Greece, Portugal and and the Netherlands, according to the BBC Sport and Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer window for Portugal and the Netherlands close on September 2nd, whilst Greece does not close until September 11th.
Turkey’s transfer window closes a week later.
Fofana has not played for Chelsea since 2022 and spent the first half of last season on loan in Germany at Union Berlin.
However, after a falling out with the Head Coach, Fofana was withdrawn in January and sent out on loan again to Burnley.
Fofana was unable to prevent Burnley’s relegation but shone with four goals in 15 Premier League appearances.
Fofana is being courted from across Europe but has not started a game since April, a 1-1 draw away to Manchester United.
Fofana needs game time and Chelsea need to reduce their wage bill.
The Blues have splashed out more than £1billion on transfers since 2022 and boast 54 players on their books, with eight already out on loan.
Yesterday, Chelsea submitted their 25-man squad for the Premier League season and Fofana was not listed.
The Ivory Coast striker was informed during the summer that he was not part of first-team plans and will be desperately seeking a move away from London to avoid a season on the sidelines.
If a move does not materialise, Fofana will be expected to play for Chelsea u23s.
The clock is ticking.
