As Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen look to strengthen their squads in January, the Bundesliga duo have identified Manchester City’s James McAtee (22) as a target.
Initially reported by The Telegraph, Sky Germany have since confirmed their report, adding that Dortmund and Leverkusen would like to sign the England Under-21 midfielder on loan with an option to buy, or on a permanent basis in the summer, but that the Premier League club would like to keep McAtee.
The Bundesliga clubs also face interest from Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, Brentford and Crystal Palace, who are monitoring the player’s situation, per James Ducker, who adds that McAtee favours a move away from the Etihad in January in search for regular playing time but with 18 months remaining on his current deal, Manchester City remain hopeful of keeping the Englishman.
Bayer Leverkusen are of course preparing for the eventual departure of Florian Wirtz, who will fetch over €100m, but it’s unlikely that the German champion would depart Die Werkself in the summer. Dortmund meanwhile are looking for further midfield options to provide competition for Julian Brandt and Co.
