Arsenal star Bukayo Saka said he was confident he would score against Real Madrid even after seeing an early penalty saved.
Saka was on the scoresheet in the second half on Wednesday night as Arsenal won 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, securing a 5-1 aggregate win, to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
The winger’s strike made amends for his mistake in the first half, having fluffed an attempted Panenka penalty which was easily saved by Thibaut Courtois.
Of the penalty, he told TNT Sports: “It can happen. I tried something, but it didn't work. I was confident I was going to score tonight.
“I learn in every moment. Tonight, I am more focused on enjoying the win and then I will review it properly.”
He added: “We showed that we can play in Europe and beat one of the best teams in the world, home and away,” Saka told TNT Sports after the match. “Very proud of this team.
“Tonight was a big statement and I am so happy for everyone ... We felt comfortable. We are quite good when we get into a low block. It took a lot of running but we managed to do it.”
Of Arsenal’s opponents in the next round, PSG, Saka said: “I see them playing with much more confidence. We will be ready and it will be a very good match.”
Victory over the two legs saw Arsenal progress to the last four of the Champions League for the first time since 2009. They will meet Paris Saint-Germain in their semi-final tie.
The winger was asked whether Arsenal can win the Champions League this season, for the first time in their history. He replied: “Yes. I like to believe that.”
