Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson has praised Harry Maguire after his performance in England’s scoreless draw against the United States.

The strong display came on his 50th appearance for England as the 29-year-old made sure the United States didn’t find a breakthrough.

Despite losing his place in the Manchester United line-up ahead of the World Cup, Maguire has performed brilliantly in England’s first two matches at the tournament. He even provided an assist in the 6-2 win over Iran before being forced off due to a head injury.

Robson has been impressed by the character Maguire has shown to perform at a high level after enduring such a torrid time lately.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Robson said: “The one positive was Harry Maguire’s performance. Harry has taken a lot of criticism and had a torrid time lately, so for him to put in such a dominant display at this level speaks volumes for his character.”

Hopefully, Maguire can return to United after performing well at the World Cup because that will only boost his confidence. The criticism he has got from England fans in the past has been unjustified because he tends to play well on the international stage.

Maguire future at the club is already in serious doubt but it remains to be seen where he could end up.
