Former Brentford star is still waiting for his debut at his new club
Bryan Mbeumo has revealed that he had two conversations which convinced him to join Manchester United this summer.
The Cameroon international became United’s latest arrival after an initial £65million move from Brentford earlier this month.
Mbeumo, 25, has joined up with his new team-mates on the Red Devils’ pre-season tour of the United States, but he is yet to make an appearance.
Manager Ruben Amorim ruled him out of Thursday’s encounter with Bournemouth, but hinted that the forward could feature against Everton this weekend.
Speaking to the media for the first time since his move to Old Trafford, Mbeumo said that it was a discussion with Amorim himself that convinced him to make the switch.
“He said, ‘We are people who like winning, and we want to be the best team’, and of course that’s what we will try to do,” Mbeumo said.
“It was a very friendly conversation and a constructive one. He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do and I really clicked on that. Of course, I spoke to some other managers because I wanted to hear their projects but the Manchester United one was very good for me.”
“You want to play on the greatest stages in the world, and Old Trafford is one of them, so being able to play here every two weeks is just big.”
Mbeumo had previously been linked with moves to other Premier League sides, namely Tottenham and Newcastle United. The former would have made plenty of sense, with his ex-manager Thomas Frank taking up the hotseat in north London.
However, United had another trick up their sleeve that turned Mbeumo’s head, his international team-mate and their first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana.
“I spoke to him, yeah, he wanted me to come,” Mbeumo confirmed.
“It’s always good to have someone like him around.”
