Manchester City may return for Bruno Guimaraes in 2025 with renewed optimism following a fresh stance taken on his future by the Brazilian.

The Premier League champions are widely expected to undergo somewhat of a rebuild during the new year and into the summer market, with a clear understanding from within the club’s hierarchy that a significant recruitment drive is necessary.

Pep Guardiola has felt the full effects of an ageing squad this season, with injuries, poor form, and fitness struggles limiting his options significantly and putting Manchester City on a run of 10 matches where they have won just once.

Central midfield is expected to be a major focal point of attentions for Manchester City recruitment staff, particularly in light of Rodri’s season-long double knee injury, and that is expected to be addressed as soon as January.

And having looked towards the player last summer, but ultimately turning away from the Brazilian’s £100 million release clause, Manchester City are expected to return for Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes in the new year.

According to the information of The Times, Guimarães would be ‘open’ to a move to the Etihad Stadium either next month or in the 2025 summer transfer window amid a revived interest from Manchester City.

It is pointed out that Etihad bosses had decided against triggering the player’s £100 million release clause that was in the 27-year-old’s contract last summer, and the report states that it is unclear if Newcastle would consider a lower bid.

City’s options in the centre of the park will not be limited to Guimaraes in 2025, but may feel as though given the player’s experience and success in the Premier League that he is the best option for an immediate solution to their problems.

Other names to have been linked with admiration from Manchester City include the likes of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, whilst Atalanta’s Ederson has been discussed within the club in recent weeks.

In a further boost to Manchester City’s hopes of a significant recruitment drive in 2025, the club announced a third consecutive year of record-breaking revenues increasing to £715 million, with sustained profitability at £73.8 million on Friday morning.

As part of the club’s Annual Report for the 2023/24 campaign, City confirmed a profit of £139 million through player transfers, with that figure not including almost £100 million through Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, Joao Cancelo to Al-Hilal, and numerous academy sales.
