Bruno Genesio to remain as Rennes manager

Rennes manager Bruno Genesio has put any talk of a departure to bed and confirmed he will remain in the dugout for next season. The former Olympique Lyonnais head coach announced during his pre-game press conference attended by RMC Sport that he will lead Les Rouge et Noir next season. Last summer, Genesio put pen to paper over a contract extension tying him with Rennes until 2025. However, reports emerged last month that Genesio and Stade Rennais would part ways. The club swiftly denied those rumours.

Genesio took over the Rennes job after Julien Stéphan’s resignation two years ago. For his first full season in Brittany, the 56-year-old boss led the club to a remarkable fourth-place finish. This time around, Rennes have started promisingly but results had dipped following the season-ending injury to free-scoring forward Martin Terrier (26) at the turn of the year. Nevertheless, sixth-place Rennes are still on course to qualify for an European qualification this season.

Les Rouge et Noir beat Monaco on Saturday night in a high-stakes game that had been described as a “cup semi-final” by Genesio. Should Rennes win their final game, they will finish above Monaco and qualify, at least, for the Europa Conference League.
