Manchester United have confirmed captain Bruno Fernandes has signed a new three-year contract at the club, with the option of a further year.
The news comes as a major boost to everyone at Old Trafford, after rumours earlier in the summer suggested the 30-year-old could look elsewhere in his hunt for major trophies.
However, after talks with the new INEOS-led executive team, Fernandes has decided to commit his long-term future to United.
Speaking after the news, Fernandes said: “Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club.
“ I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe that my best moments in a United shirt are still to come.
“From my discussions with the football leadership and manager, it is clear how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the years ahead. I can see how positive the future is going to be and I am relishing leading this team forward.”
The Portuguese international joined United in January 2020 and has undoubtedly been their key player since, scoring 79 goals and providing 66 assists in 234 appearances, and barely missing a game in the process.
Fernandes has lifted two trophies with the club, the EFL Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in May, the first alongside then-club captain Harry Maguire and the second after he had assumed the role at the start of the 2023/24 season.
