Bruno Fernandes says Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag got “everything” right in his side’s FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

The United captain set up Kobbie Mainoo for the second goal of the game after Alejandro Garnacho had opened the scoring.

Jeremy Doku got a goal back for City late on but United defended resolutely to hold on and end what has been a disappointing season with silverware.

Asked by ITV Sport after the game what his manager got right in his preparation for the game, Fernandes said: “Everything, he prepares every game well. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

“You can see it was about being compact, about making pressure through the lines, about having heart and passion.”

Speculation has surrounded ten Hag’s future heading into the FA Cup final but Fernandes would not be drawn on whether the United boss will still be at the club next season.

“We just want to celebrate and enjoy this moment together with the fans, with the staff and the manager. We all deserve this,” he said.

“It’s not for me to decide or not, I’m just a football player.

Fernandes also praised the fans for their support this season: “They deserve so much, they deserve it even more than us.

“We deserve a lot. We didn’t have the season that we wanted but they were behind us in the worst periods and today we gave something back.”
