Bruno Fernandes has refused to be drawn on what the future may hold for Man Utd, admitting that 'many things need to be fixed' at the club.

United were officially dumped out of the race for a Champions League place on Saturday after being dismantled by mid-table Brighton on the south coast. The 4-0 defeat also means the Red Devils are guaranteed to end the season with their lowest points tally in the Premier League era.

Fernandes has been one of a number of major disappointments for Man Utd this season, although he signed a new long-term contract in early April to keep him at Old Trafford until 2026.

Speaking after the dismal defeat to the Seagulls, the Portugal international revealed he had held lengthy discussions with the United hierarchy about the overall outlook for the club before eventually putting pen to paper once he had been given assurances.

"I don't want to talk about the future," the midfielder told Sky Sports. "We still have one game this season and we have to win.

"I talked with the club about the future many times before I signed my contract because I think the future can be good, but obviously many things need to be fixed, as we have seen this season."

The 27-year-old also admitted his embarrassment at the thrashing by Brighton, adding: "The result is what it is. It is not good enough. They outplayed us. They always had a solution. Pressed us better and they deserved the result.

"It's something that we have to look at and be embarrassed about because that was not good enough from us and we have to do much better."

A much-needed new era will begin at Old Trafford when Erik ten Hag is installed in the dugout in the summer, with Fernandes likely to be central to the Dutchman's plans.

However, there is still set to be an overhaul of the playing squad, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick anticipating as many as 'eight' new faces through the door in the summer.
