Bruno Fernandes has put off new contract talks with Manchester United.

The Daily Mail says Fernandes has put negotiations over a lucrative new contract at Manchester United on hold as the Portuguese star waits to see the direction the team is heading in.

Fernandes, who is believed to earn around £100,000-a-week at Old Trafford, is seeking parity with the club's biggest earners in his new deal to reflect his importance to the side.

Cristiano Ronaldo is United's largest earner, on over £400,000-a-week, and goalkeeper David de Gea isn't far behind on £375,000-a-week.

At least eight players are thought to earn more than Fernandes, including captain Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani.

Fernandes, who has a deal to 2025, and his representatives turned down an offer from United in late autumn and negotiations now won't resume until May.

By then, Fernandes and his team will know in which European competition, if any, United will be playing in next season.
