But it was David Moyes' side who managed to get revenge at Old Trafford.

West Ham took the lead in the opening 10 minutes through Manuel Lanzini.

United tried everything to get back into the game and they threw on one of their star players, Bruno Fernandes, to try and keep them in the competition.

The Portuguese is a fierce competitor who hates losing.

And he resorted to desperate measures in the 94th minute to try and keep his side in the game.

West Ham were given an uncontested drop ball in their own half.

As the referee dropped the ball, Fernandes nipped in and drove towards goal.

The Portuguese then passed the ball into the net but, unfortunately for him, the referee wasn't having any of it.

Fernandes looked aggrieved as he retrieved the ball once again and jogged back to the spot of the drop ball.

Imagine the controversy if that was allowed to stand?!

It didn't though and the final whistle sounded moments later to signal West Ham's win.

Fernandes has been slammed by many rival fans for his desperate attempt to salvage something for his side.

Fernandes is yet to win a trophy during his time at United. His wait will go on for a bit longer after their defeat to West Ham.

West Ham's reward for beating United is a fourth round clash at Manchester City. Ouch.

Chelsea will host Southampton, Arsenal will play Leeds at the Emirates Stadium while Liverpool will travel to Preston.
