Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has shockingly admitted that he and his teammates are certainly not playing to the standards required, following their deplorable win against Coventry City.

United booked their place in the FA Cup final where they will face Manchester City at Wembley after they beat Coventry in a penalty shootout.

The Red Devils had a commanding 3-0 advantage with 20 minutes of normal time left on the clock, but they blew it. Coventry scored three quick goals including a very late penalty kick after Aaron Wan Bissaka was judged to have handled the ball inside his own box.

After extra time, both sides had to settle for a penalty shootout. Luckily, Erik ten Hag’s men prevailed to spare themselves any more blushes.

Fernandes spoke to ITV after the game and echoed the sentiments of many United fans, who also came to the determination that the players were poor and folded under pressure from their significantly inferior Championship opponents.

The Portugal international also gave his verdict on whether United’s season would be considered a success if the club were to beat Man City and somehow win the domestic competition.

Fernandes said, “We’ll never be successful if we win [only] the FA Cup.”

He remarked about the current standards that are very low, “The standard of this club is much higher than what we have been doing. We have to do better in the league, the League Cup and in Europe.”

“When they [Coventry City] scored a goal [very late in extra time], we thought it might be offside but we couldn’t tell from the front.”

“We put ourselves in a difficult position and should have killed it earlier, but we didn’t.”

He called on the United players to do much better going forward.

United will get the chance to redeem themselves later this week on Wednesday when they host Premier League strugglers Sheffield United at Old Trafford.
