According to Canal+ (h/t The Express), Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has expressed his desire to play alongside former teammate and Polish international Piotr Zielinski.
The duo spent three years together at Serie A side Udinese from 2013-2016 before seeking better pastures new. Despite their years away from each other, Fernandes has fond memories of playing alongside the Napoli star.
While Fernandes is today a star at United, Zielinski has established himself as one of Napoli’s key players. The United No.18 even went as far as to claim that the Polish ace is technically better than him.
“Technically, I can say that Zielinski is better trained than I am.”
Fernandes was effusive of his praise of Zielinski and has made no qualms of the high regard he holds him in. They continue to stay in touch and Fernandes has already intimated to him of his desire to link up once again.
“I spoke to him a few months ago and told him that I would like to play with him again.”
The United ace has a long-term contract at Old Trafford and could yet sign a longer one soon. Whether Fernandes’ comments are a hint to United to go get Zielinski remains to be seen.
“Who knows what the future has waiting for us. For me, he is a really, really top player.”
A full Polish international, Zielinski is an excellent midfielder who can carry the ball well. He also has an eye for goal and can finish tidily.
While Fred is an engine in midfield, he lacks the attacking nous that can contribute going forward. Adding Zielinski to our midfield could open up new avenues that do not exist at this point in time.
Zielinski’s contract at Napoli runs until 2024. Napoli is not a side that is easy to negotiate with and United could very well have their work cut out if they make a move.
