Bruno Fernandes thinks Manchester United should be going all out to sign Portugal international Goncalo Ramos from Benfica.

The Red Devils are known to be in the market for a new striker heading into this summer and Ramos is one player they are being linked with.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout season for Benfica in 2022/23. He grabbed 27 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

Ramos also produced a star-making performance for Portugal in the World Cup last year. He scored a hat-trick as they hammered Switzerland 6-1 in the round of 16.

Man Utd are also interested in Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, but Ramos is a potentially cheaper alternative. It was claimed last month that he is valued at around £70m heading into this summer.

Fernandes plays with Ramos for Portugal and the Man Utd standout insists that the forward has “all the qualities to play in the Premier League.

“The best always come in handy, be it Gonçalo or another player,” Fernandes told Sport TV.

“I think he has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United.

“I think he could become a great reference in the coming years, but it’s still not in my hands to be sports director.”

He added: “Gonçalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League, he is very intense, presses very well and is very good inside the area.

“He surprised me in the national team, not only me but the rest of my teammates.

“He’s physically strong, he’s still young and he’s going to get better.

“If he continues to work as he has been doing, I think he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world, but he needs to go to a more competitive league to prove it.”

After Ramos netted his hat-trick at the World Cup, Arsenal legend Ian Wright was taken aback by the forward’s “very impressive” performance.

“It was very impressive, he played very well, scored a hat trick and takes all the headlines and rightly so,” Wright said.

“He held the ball up brilliantly but the first goal set the stall for him.

“He scores a goal that he’s not meant to score (his first goal). He hits it so well, he’s not meant to score that side of the goal but that kind of set them on the road really.”
