United’s win was made topped off by Jesus Vallejo’s own goal in the 90th minute.

This game demonstrated Cavani’s exceptional number-nine qualities. He held up the play brilliantly and tried to link up with other teammates.

The 34-year old striker could have bagged a brace but failed to bury the opportunity created by Bruno Fernandes in the second half.

Despite his miss, the former PSG striker put in another superb display, illustrating why the Red Devils must keep him at Old Trafford for at least another season.

Fernandes lavished praise on the striker in his post-match interview with BT Sports. He said, “Everyone knows Cavani, everything he does, he is a proper striker, a proper nine. We know the qualities of our players.”

This was Cavani’s ninth goal of the season. He has missed some games due to fitness issues but is still United’s third-highest goalscorer after Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. This shows how valuable he is to the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will lock horns with Serie A giants Roma in the Europa League semi-finals.

The Portuguese midfielder expressed his views on the tie. He said: “Every team will give us problems.”

“We know Italian teams are well organised defensively, they have players people here will know and if we do the right things we will have chances to win the game.”
