Manchester United’s star-midfielder and stand-in captain Bruno Fernandes has spoken ahead of tonight’s important Champions League group game against Ligue 1 giants Paris-Saint Germain.

Fernandes was named as the Reds’ captain after usual skipper Harry Maguire suffered an injury set-back earlier in the week which was confirmed by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the club’s official pre-match press conference.

Solskjaer will be hoping his new captain can replicate a European performance that the United faithful have been treated to in years gone by, such as Roy Keane’s masterclass against Juventus during the 1999 Champions League semi-final.

Speaking to BT ahead of tonight’s hotly anticipated match-up Fernandes was asked about the recent reports which suggested there was friction brewing between him and his manager Solskjaer.

According to recent claims from The Athletic Fernandes was left upset after being subbed off just one-minute into United’s second-half against Spurs before the international break in a domestic game which saw the Reds thrashed 6-1.

United’s Portuguese Magnifico has been quick to dismiss these claims, he said: “I don’t like these situations. I don’t particularly care but I speak about it in the press because it’s not fair on the coach.

“No one blames the coach. It was the same team pretty much who played unbeaten for 17 games last season, or something like that.

“People want to blame Harry Maguire, they want to blame the coach, so I speak to just clarify nothing happened.

“We lose 6-1, everyone needs to blame themselves. The problem is not one or two or three, it’s the whole team. We didn’t prepare good enough, we didn’t play good enough and it’s everyone’s fault.

“So we come to the training ground after the national team and we know we need to train hard and work better. We did that against Newcastle and I hope we’ll do that against Paris.”

Fernandes was named as Solskjaer’s captain for tonight’s Champions League against Paris-Saint Germain during the club’s official pre-match press conference and will be he can help guide the youthful Reds to glory at the famous Parc des Princes.
