Though it was Chelsea that progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup, Plymouth Argyle came away from Saturday’s game at Stamford Bridge with a huge amount of credit.

After taking an early lead, the League One side took the Blues to extra time and it was hard not to be impressed by the way Steven Schumacher’s side approached the game.

Their focus now shifts back to the league with a trip to face Crewe at The Mornflake Stadium on Tuesday night.

After a difficult start to 2022 in League One, Argyle picked up an important victory against Doncaster Rovers at the end of January and will be eyeing three more points tomorrow.

With that in mind, we’ve outlined the starting XI we expect to see named against Crewe…

Michael Cooper was nothing short of sensational against Chelsea on Saturday and the Plymouth shot-stopper should reprise his role against Crewe tomorrow evening.

Schumacher’s defenders were hugely impressive as well at Stamford Bridge as they kept the Premier League side – packed full of stars – at bay for long periods.

Did Plymouth Argyle win, lose or draw in each of these 25 games this season?

Win Lose Draw

Unless there are any casualties of the 120 minutes played on Saturday, we could see an unchanged back five on Tuesday night.

Conor Grant and Joe Edwards have been so important on the flanks this term, while the back three of Macauley Gillesphey, Dan Scarr, and James Wilson should provide a solid foundation for Schumacher’s side.

We could see a change in central midfield, however, with Ryan Broom coming in to replace Danny Mayor in a three alongside Panutche Camará and Jordan Houghton.

Jordan Garrick got the nod against Chelsea but Niall Ennis may be back in tomorrow evening alongside Luke Jephcott.

Crewe head into the game on a run of three League One defeats so Plymouth will surely be eyeing Tuesday’s match as an opportunity to close the gap further on the top six and one that should not be missed.
