Bristol City's injury concerns ahead of Sheffield Wednesday fixture

Bristol City host Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday night, and will be looking to maintain their positive momentum following a recent victory over Oxford United, which they followed up with a 1-1 draw at Swansea City.

The Robins were in danger of entering a period of woeful form when they suffered consecutive 3-0 losses to both Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, but have managed to turn things around.

So far this campaign, Liam Manning's side are unbeaten at home, which is a record they will be looking to retain on Wednesday night, while the Owls have lost all three of their previous away trips in the Championship.

While the Robins' home form in comparison to the Owls' away form suggests this is a game which the hosts should win, Danny Rohl's men will arrive in the south-west in a buoyant mood following their thrilling 3-2 victory over highflying West Brom last Saturday.

Ahead of the clash between the Robins and Owls at Ashton Gate, which is being broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event, Football League World takes you through the West Country outfit's injury concerns.

Centre backs Rob Dickie and Rob Atkinson have both missed out on featuring for the Robins so far this season due to their respective injury issues, while the latter has not made an appearance since the 2022/23 campaign.

As reported by the Bristol Post, Atkinson, who suffered an ACL setback in 2023 and a hamstring problem last February, appeared in an under-21 match last month.

However, his absence from first team activities so far this season indicates that he is unlikely to feature as Manning's men look for consecutive home wins.

Meanwhile, Dickie has not returned to action since suffering a hamstring injury during a 1-1 draw with Coventry City at Ashton Gate back in August.

The Robins have failed to keep a cleansheet so far this campaign, so supporters will be hoping that both Dickie and Atkinson can make their return to Championship football sooner rather than later.

Sam Bell also set to miss Bristol City vs Sheffield Wednesday clash

The Robins' absentee list will also likely include Sam Bell, who suffered a severe hamstring injury last February, and managed one Championship appearance this season before his previous problem unfortunately reoccurred.

Fellow winger Ayman Benarous, who has not been able to play since the 2021/22 campaign, courtesy of an ACL issue he suffered in April 2022, while he later went on to re-rupture the same ligament.

Benarous' lack of involvement once more this season indicates that he is unlikely to feature on Wednesday evening when his side take on the Owls.

Meanwhile, full-back Ross McCrorie suffered a hamstring injury on the eve of the new season, and has not played for the Robins since the last day of last season, as Manning's men were hammered 4-0 at Stoke City.

McCrorie was also sidelined for six months last season, which was his debut campaign for the Robins following his transfer from former club Aberdeen, due to a bone infection.
