Bristol City have enjoyed a decent run of form as they approach the end of the season, losing just one of their last eight fixtures in the Championship.

Within that run, they have picked up brilliant wins against Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers, and Liam Manning will hope that these successes are a glimmer of what could come next season.

Despite all this, they know that a key part behind their success in these final few games has been hard-working forward Tommy Conway. With interest coming from north of the border, Manning will know the importance of retaining Conway amid their hopes of a more fruitful season next year.

Conway: Another on the Bristol City conveyor belt

The Robins are a club which has become synonymous with youth development in the past 20 years. Players such as Bobby Reid, Joe Bryan and Alex Scott have all passed through their academy and been sold on for profit.

However, in Conway, they will feel they have a striker that they must nurture to become one of their own as they look to secure the goals that can send them to the Premier League.

Having learned his trade on loan at Bath City and Yate Town, at just 21-years-old, the striker has managed to score 23 goals in his past two seasons for the Robins. Along with this, he showcased his immense talent on the biggest stage with strikes in both ties against West Ham as he helped them reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Speaking to Sky Sports about getting the opportunity to play for his home club, Conway said: "I've been working for 14 years of my life for this, so that makes it that extra bit special."

With still bags of potential and an undoubted love for Bristol City, it would be no surprise to see Conway extend his stay at Ashton Gate and continue to add to his goal tally. But, a large worry for Manning will be the continued interest from Scottish giants, Celtic and Rangers in the forward, and European football may be enough to interest the youngster.

Celtic and Rangers interest could turn Conway's head

Being a Scottish youth international, Celtic and Rangers would seemingly be an ideal move for Conway should he be swayed. Not only is there the added benefit of European football, but it will surely lead to more goals for the Robins number 15, playing in sides that tend to create far more chances in a league they dominate.

A boost in goals may also catch the eye of Steve Clarke, the Scotland manager, who is apparently keen to introduce Conway into the first team as he continues to progress.

For Conway, the chance to be in the spotlight at a prominent club like that of Celtic or Rangers will be under consideration, but at Ashton Gate he still has the opportunity to make himself a hero to the Robins fans.

Bristol City have to keep Conway

Bristol City's technical director, Brian Dinnion, has stated the club are trying to get Conway to sign a new contract as his current one is due to expire in the summer of 2025. For the South-West side, this is a must, with their hopes of a good 2024/25 season resting partially on the form of Conway among others.

Should the striker leave, a player with a clear eye for goal would likely be missing in Manning's side. Having converted an expected goals count of 7.86 into nine this Championship campaign, it is evident that if given a good enough opportunity, he won't miss.

This is the task for Manning, to create more chances for his strikers in a side that are defensively strong. If achieved, this would push the Robins a lot closer to the play-offs and would boost Conway's numbers significantly, allowing them to command a large fee for him in the future.

One thing is for sure, though, Bristol City fans will be desperate to see a new Conway contract to fight off the Old Firm duo, with the view of the player sticking around as they look to avoid another mid-table finish in 2024/25.
