Weimann is one of five players who have been signed by Blackburn in recent days, alongside Danny Batth, Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi and the returning Kyle McFadzean.

Ohashi, Gueye and Weimann have been brought in to strengthen Rovers' forward options, following Sam Gallagher's move to Stoke City and amid speculation that last season's Championship Golden Boot winner, Sammie Szmodics, is going to leave the club to join Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town before the end of the summer transfer window.

Weimann has a wealth of experience at Championship level, and played 32 games in the second tier for Bristol City and West Brom last season, helping the Baggies reach the play-offs in the second half of the campaign during his loan spell at The Hawthorns.

Bristol City fans will know what the 32-year-old is capable of, after he spent five-and-a-half seasons playing at Ashton Gate, scored 51 goals, and was named club captain in February 2023. The 2021/22 was Weimann's most successful season for the Robins, as he netted 22 goals and provided 10 assists in the Championship.

Weimann's former teammates have reacted to his move

Weimann uploaded a post to his Instagram account following the confirmation of his move to Rovers.

The Austrian wrote: "Very happy to sign for @Rovers. Excited to get going and looking forward to the season ahead. See you all at Ewood Park next week!!"

Blackburn will kick off their 2024/25 Championship campaign against another one of Weimann's former clubs, Derby County, at Ewood Park on August 9.

Some of the Austrian's former teammates reacted to him signing for Blackburn, including Bristol City striker Tommy Conway. The 21-year-old is currently the subject of transfer speculation himself, amid rumours linking him with fellow Championship sides Middlesbrough and Burnley.

Conway left a message under Weimann's Instagram post, showing support for someone he shared a dressing room with at Bristol City.

Jay Dasilva, Andy King, Ross McCrorie, Marlon Pack, Ashley Williams, Joe Williams and Dan Bentley also left messages of support for Weimann, showing how much of a liked and respected member of Bristol City's squad he was during his time at the club.

Weimann will face Bristol City next season

Weimann was not included in West Brom's squad that beat Bristol City in March due to the fact that he was on loan, but he will be eligible to play against the Robins for Blackburn next season.

He has played against Bristol City seven times during his career, winning twice and losing on three occasions, although he did not score in any of those fixtures.

The Robins will travel to Ewood Park on September 14, before Weimann is set to make his return to Ashton Gate in the reverse fixture on January 25, 2025.

If the reaction of his former teammates on his latest Instagram post is anything to go by, the forward can expect to be given a good reception at both games next term.
