It was another inconsistent campaign for the Robins last season as they finished 11th in the table, but they lost just two of their final 10 games to offer supporters plenty of hope going into the summer.

It has been a busy start to the summer as head coach Liam Manning looks to rebuild his squad, and City have brought in two new signings so far, with Fally Mayulu making a permanent move from Rapid Wien and Yu Hirakawa joining on loan from Machida Zelvia.

There have also been a number of departures, with senior players such as Matty James, Andy King and Andreas Weimann being released at the end of their contracts, while Jamie Knight-Lebel, Seb Palmer-Houlden and Ephraim Yeboah have all made loan moves elsewhere.

With over a month until the end of the transfer window, there are likely to be further incomings and outgoings for the Robins, and we rounded up all the latest news from Ashton Gate.

Robins face Stoke City competition

Journalist Pete O'Rourke claimed on Monday night that the Robins were in "advanced talks" to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Sinclair Armstrong.

The Hoops took up their option to extend Armstrong's contract by a further year this summer, and while he has been offered a longer-term deal at Loftus Road, it seems unlikely he will commit his future to the club.

City are believed to have opened talks over a potential deal for Armstrong last week, but the move is yet to be completed, and according to West London Sport, Stoke City are also "expected to submit an offer" for the 21-year-old.

The good news for the Bs3 outfit is that reports suggest that the Potters need to offload players before they can sign the Rs rising star.

It remains to be seen whether the Robins will win the race for Armstrong amid rival Championship interest, but FLW's Bristol City fan pundit Tom Sandy believes the striker would be an excellent signing for the club if he does make the move to Ashton Gate.

"Obviously last season we acquired Rob Dickie for a cut-price [fee] and he's gone on to do fantastically for us and I think we're getting a similar kind of steal with Armstrong," Tom said.

"He's very young, 21 years old, Irish international which means he'll be familiar with some of our squad - the likes of Mark Sykes, Max O'Leary, Jason Knight, they're all around that camp as well.

"His goalscoring record is something which maybe brings concerns, he's got three [Championship] goals in 61 appearances, three goals and three assists in 38 appearances last season but only 19 of them were starts, and he's just a very raw talent at the moment - that'll come with age I think.

"He reminds me a lot of Antoine Semenyo, very similar profile of player, you saw how his output at Ashton Gate increased year-on-year, he really improved and if we can get a similar kind of system around Armstrong I don't see why he couldn't thrive in a City shirt.

"Given the fact he's got a year left on his contract and his track record, he hasn't got the stats to back up a high price tag and that's why I think that we could probably get him for maybe £1 million, slightly less would be the hope.

"I guess we'll see, he's a very different profile to what we've got at the moment and I'd definitely be excited about signing him."

Exeter City player chase

The Robins have already brought in two strikers this summer in Mayulu and Hirakawa, and Armstrong could also be on his way to Ashton Gate, but it seems that Manning may be keen to strengthen his forward line even further.

Football Insider claimed last week that City are interested in signing Exeter City forward Millenic Alli, but they face competition for his signature from Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers.

However, Bristol Live has since reported that Alli is not a target for the Robins and that, in fact, they hold no interest in him.
