Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward says that this weekend’s fixture against Bristol City is another ‘must-win’ game for her side.

The Villans play host to the Barclays Women’s Super League’s bottom club at The Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With 10 games remaining, Aston Villa are six points from the top half of the table and head coach Ward believes that this weekend’s fixture is another one of the ‘must-win’ nature.

“I’ve said it a few times this season, it’s ‘must-win’,” Ward said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “Bristol City are fighting, I’ve seen comments that every game is a cup final for them now. They need to find points, they need to pick points up from anywhere to try and stay in the division, so it won’t be easy, it wasn’t easy when we went there neither.

“It’s going to be very difficult. We have to be prepared to be frustrated because I think they will definitely try to do that.”

Going on to discuss Bristol City further, Ward said that her side may not get the opportunity to play their usual attractive style of football.

She said “We never like to get into a battle, we like to get the ball down and play and dominate the ball, however, I’ve been in their position at Birmingham and sometimes, you have to find different ways; you have to scrap, you have to fight and put everything out there and they’ll do that.

“Despite them being bottom of the league, Lauren [Smith] has got them playing some good stuff. They’re brave, they’re young and they’re hungry to get points, so it’ll be a difficult afternoon.”

Aston Villa’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Bristol City kicks-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets will be available on the day at The Poundland Bescot Stadium.
