That is according to Alan Nixon via Patreon, who reports that the Robins are making a late move to bring the Republic of Ireland youth international to Ashton Gate.

The 21-year-old is currently out on loan in Belgium with Molenbeek, starting regularly in the Belgian second division.

However, it is reported that a deal with Bristol City could break this, with the Robins taking over the loan, or, making a cash bid to sign him permanently.

Who is Jake O’Brien?

Jake O’Brien’s career began at Cork City in the Irish Premier Division, for whom he made ten senior appearances before sealing a transfer to Crystal Palace in 2021.

After featuring plenty for the Palace youth sides, O’Brien was then sent out on loan to Swindon Town in League Two for the second half of the campaign.

With the Wiltshire based side, O’Brien notched up 21 appearances, including two in the League Two play-offs.

This season, a loan to Belgium was decided upon, with the defender having made 19 appearances for RWD Molenbeek so far this campaign.

The Verdict

This is certainly an interesting link for Bristol City.

It seems clear they hold an interest in the player, and they must be keen to get a deal done given they are willing to either loan him in or make a cash offer.

Whether or not Crystal Palace are willing to entertain switching his loan, or indeed a permanent move remain to be seen.

It may depend on when his current deal with Palace expires, which is unclear at this moment in time.
