Bristol City have been dealt a setback in their pursuit of AFC Wimbledon left-back Jack Currie.

According to a report from Football Insider, the Robins have had two bids rejected by Wimbledon for the 21-year-old.

The Robins will now need to submit a fresh offer if they are to secure the services of Currie before the window shuts tomorrow evening.

Championship sides can loan in and purchase players up until the 11pm deadline on Tuesday.

It is understood that City are still trying to get a deal over the line for Currie as they aim to bolster their options in the left-back position.

Currie signed a two-year deal with Wimbledon last April which includes an option for the club to extend his stay for another 12 months.

With the defender set to remain at the Cherry Red Records Stadium until at least 2024, the Dons will be in no rush to cash in on him this week.

After being loaned out to Eastbourne Borough last season, Currie has been selected to feature on a regular basis by Wimbledon during the current campaign.

The left-back has made 25 appearances in League Two while he has also represented the Dons in the FA Cup, the League Cup and the EFL Trophy.

The Verdict

Having been dealt a setback in this particular pursuit, it will be interesting to see whether the Robins will be able to convince Wimbledon to part ways with Currie.

With time running out for clubs to make signings, Bristol City will need to act quickly in order to have a chance of finalising a move.

Alternatively, if Wimbledon are unwilling to part ways with Currie, the Robins should immediately switch their attention to other players if they are indeed keen to strengthen their options on the left-hand side of the pitch.

As for Currie, it could be argued that he should be looking to stay at Wimbledon unless he is given some assurance regarding game-time by City.

At this stage of his career, the left-back will benefit considerably from featuring week-in, week-out at senior level.
