Bristol Cityare one of the longest-serving teams in the Championship - having been in the second tier since they won League One in 2015.

However, despite spending the last eight-and-a-half seasons at this level, they have never finished in the play-off places.

This could mainly be put down to the fact a lot of their best players have been sold.

Alex Scott, Adam Webster, and Lloyd Kelly are just some of the former City players that have been sold to Premier League clubs for large transfer fees over the last few seasons.

With City’s failure to reach the top six, this is likely to keep happening - and Tommy Conway could be the next to leave this summer.

Tommy Conway is yet another bright Robins talent

Conway is a 21-year-old striker, who has been with Bristol City since the age of seven.

His senior career began with a loan move to Yate Town in 19/20, and then his second loan move was at Bath City in the National League South, where he spent four months.

The Scotland U21 international scored four goals in eleven games for the Romans, which led to him making his first team debut for Bristol City in April 2021. He then scored his first goal for the club a month later in a game against Millwall.

After a 21/22 campaign where he found game time limited (making just four league appearances), he started the 22/23 season in impressive fashion, having signed a new three-year deal with the club that summer.

He won the EFL Young Player of the Month in August 2022, scoring three goals and assisting another in six games.

Finishing the campaign with 16 goal contributions in 38 games across all competitions, he went into this season full of confidence.

So far for Liam Manning’s side, he has scored seven goals in 29 Championship games. He also scored a goal in each of their games against West Ham United in the FA Cup, scoring the winner in the replay at Ashton Gate.

If Robins do not reach play-offs, Conway may want to leave

But with Conway’s form and young age, comes interest from bigger clubs.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano said on Wednesday afternoon that Conway is yet to agree a new deal with the Robins and is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, as well as other top leagues.

Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers have also been strongly linked with a move.

With talks over a new deal seemingly progressing little, speculation about a move is only going to intensify.

The Robins' lack of progression, with their chances of reaching the play-offs this season minimal, and the club's concern will be that it could be something that encourages Conway to look to move on.

His contract is up next summer and with interest from the Old Firm giants as well as Premier League clubs, leaving Bs3 - as his good friend Scott did - will surely be tempting.

There can be no denying City's ambition but their targets have not matched up with reality in recent years and that comes at a cost.

It feels a little soon to be talking about Conway's exit but were interest from elsewhere to turn into something a little more serious this summer, the striker could become the club's next big sale.
