Robert Vilahamn was pleased with the performance over Bristol City as we secured a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon, but highlighted the improvement needed to convert our opportunities.

Bethany England got us off to the perfect start at Ashton Gate as she opened the scoring inside the opening two minutes, firing low into the bottom corner after showing composure inside the box, to net her first Barclays Women’s Super League goal of the campaign.

We continued to carve out opportunities throughout the game, where we struck the woodwork twice and forced Fran Bentley into numerous saves, but we failed to extend our advantage.

That wouldn’t matter much in the end as we held on to secure the three points and see us close the gap on the top five in the table, heading into a three-week break with back-to-back victories in the league.

Speaking to SPURSPLAY after the game, Robert said: “If you compare this game to Leicester City then, I think, it’s a really good game as we had the ball, created chances and had around 19 shots, so we just needed that extra goal.

“But, if you look at its performance-wise, then we played some lovely football and got a clean sheet. Obviously, we want to score more goals, but it’s still a very good game.”

When asked about the chances created, he said: “We need to be even sharper, I’m not sure if it’s bad luck or we need to improve there because we had the shots and chances, but our finishing wasn’t great.

“We need to make sure we take these opportunities because we can now dictate the game and play out from the back, but we need to be sharper there.”

Despite some late pressure from the Robins in the closing stages of the game, we also recorded our third clean sheet of the season in the WSL and Robert was full of praise for his defensive backline.

Robert added: “I think you can look at Luana [Bühler], Amy [James-Turner] and Becky [Spencer] now, they are playing with self-confidence, they were good in the defending and in the build-up. They played very well and had plenty of confidence, so it looks good and the clean sheet as well, which I love.”
