Blackburn Rovers remain interested in a move for Cardiff City attacker Mark Harris after showing interest in the 24-year-old during January.

As per a report from Alan Nixon via his Patreon account, Rovers considered a move for Harris last month but were presented with a £700,000 asking fee for the forward.

Now, with the forward set to see his Cardiff contract expire in the summer, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side remain interested but could be met with a lot of competition.

Sharing his thoughts on Harris’ situation and particularly Blackburn’s interest, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: “Blackburn were hoping to agree a deal with Cardiff before the transfer deadline.

“His contract expires in the summer. So, none of the prospective buyers, and there were a few clubs interested, were prepared to pay the £700,000 plus that Cardiff we’re asking. It doesn’t make sense when the player is going to be available on a free in the summer.

“But, Blackburn now not doing the deal, and him being available on a free in the summer, that brings other clubs into play. Stoke and Wigan were interested in him. They also didn’t want to pay the £700,000 plus and why would you when a player is going to be out of contract in the summer?”

The verdict

Harris is a player who would bring energy, direct-running and pressing ability to Rovers and could prove to be a strong addition as a free agent.

He is not the kind of forward, you would think, that will score lots of goals but his unselfish work could benefit Blackburn’s frontline in the long run.

It made complete financial sense to miss out in January, however, they have to expect lots more competition when he becomes a free agent.

A player that will offer attacking versatility too for Rovers, this would be a strong addition whilst he is at a good age to continue his development.
