Having written their names in the Hoops history books, Mengyu left the club with one League Cup medal, two Scottish Cups and an SWPL1 winners medal. She helped the Celts to their first ever Women’s Scottish Cup and league title, and made a massive impact in the midfield, making 83 total league appearances with 27 goal contributions.
Especially during the business end of Celtic’s title winning run, she was an essential part of the squad. She was putting in very good performances regularly, linking up well with her teammates, and it thankfully paid off with the historic trophy lift at Celtic Park.
She also made history by joining the club, becoming the first-ever Chinese women’s footballer in the UK when she signed in 2021.
After her time at Celtic, she then signed for London City last year. She only managed to appear 14 times across all competitions, scoring once in the FA Women’s National League Cup.
Described as a player who brought dynamism and creativity to the midfield during her time at London City, she is the 12th player to depart the club this summer. Having won promotion to the Women’s Super League, the top flight of English football, they seem to be preparing their squad in an attempt to compete with the best of the best.
With some supporters across social media feeling that we are still missing something in the midfield, would a move to bring Mengyu back to the club be something that you would like to see?
