The first half of Saturday’s match at Villa Park was shaping up to be a day to forget for everyone associated with Brighton as they found themselves 3-0 down after just 26 minutes.
But early in the second half, it quickly became a day to remember for one man.
Ansu Fati joined the Seagulls on loan from Barcelona in a surprise switch late in the summer transfer window and was brought off the bench at half-time of the Villa game for his fifth appearance for the club.
And he soon scored his first goal in English football, tapping in at the back post after João Pedro’s ball across the box had found its way to him.
That is the 30th senior goal of his career and means he has now scored in LaLiga, the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, the Supercopa de España and the Premier League.
Injuries hampered the 20-year-old’s development at Barcelona and it was hoped this loan move would be just the tonic to get his career back on track.
Now he’s opened his account in the Premier League, he’ll be hoping to make plenty more deposits where that one came from.
