Manchester United close out the 2023-24 Premier League campaign with a trip to Brighton, but the Red Devils will have one eye on next weekend’s FA Cup final against their rivals Manchester City.

Erik ten Hag’s side still have a chance of leapfrogging Newcastle into seventh place after they defeated the Magpies 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday, but their best avenue into Europe could well be by lifting the FA Cup.

Brighton’s season has petered out somewhat and the Seagulls are going into the final day in 10th place, having won only one of their last nine Premier League matches.

Albion finished sixth last season, breaking the 60-point barrier, and they are aiming to finish in the top half of the league for a third successive season, which would be guaranteed if they win.

The Seagulls will want to finish in style and give their home supporters something to cheer about, but they need to put Wednesday’s 2-1 loss against Chelsea behind them.

Red Devils hoping for strong FA Cup final preparation

The outcome of this match is unlikely to define Manchester United’s season or Erik ten Hag’s future, especially with the FA Cup final on the horizon.

However, having returned to form following back-to-back losses to Crystal Palace and Arsenal with their 3-2 home victory over Newcastle in midweek, they’ll want to carry some momentum into their big day at Wembley.

In order to do that, United will have to put a poor recent record against Brighton behind them. The Seagulls have won the last four league meetings between the sides and were convincing 3-1 victors at Old Trafford earlier in the season.

The Red Devils have taken only two points from their past five away league games and were readily brushed aside 4-0 at Crystal Palace in their last road outing, so they are not the easiest side to trust.

Brighton have conceded 60 Premier League goals this season, equalling their worst defensive record in the division since 2018-19, and have plenty of flaws of their own which should lead to an entertaining encounter.

Brighton vs Manchester United team news

Brighton are set to be without centre-back Lewis Dunk, who went off at half-time against Chelsea on Wednesday with a knee problem, and he joins Jan Paul van Hecke, Kaoru Mitoma, Jack Hinshelwood, Evan Ferguson, Pervis Estupinan, James Milner and Solly March on the sidelines.

The Seagulls will give Tariq Lamptey and Joel Veltmen late fitness tests.

United are also plagued by injuries with England internationals Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Mason Mount set to miss out.

Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are also sidelined but Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof are back in training while Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford returned from injury in the midweek victory over Newcastle.

Brighton vs Man Utd Predicted line-ups
