Anderlecht’s Bart Verbruggen was left frustrated as the Netherlands U21 failed to find a winner against their Belgian counterparts in the European-U21 Championships in Georgia, he told NOS.

Jong Oranje drew 0-0 in their opening group stage match despite 14 attempts at goal leaving the side to rue missed chances.

The Brighton & Hove Albion transfer target was not able to enjoy his leading role in the opening game of the European Under-21 Championship. The U21s goalkeeper was disappointed after the draw against the Belgian contemporaries.

The Young Oranje had great opportunities in Georgia, especially in the first half, but had an extremely difficult time in the second half. The 20-year-old goalkeeper produced a superb performance to keep hopes of a win but could only settle for a point.

“It’s nice to be able to help the team. Sometimes with the ball and sometimes with saves, but everyone contributes,” he said.

Verbruggen’s standout performance should have been the icing on the cake after a win. After the draw, the feeling was completely different, the youth international emphasizes.

“We should have been leading 0-3 at half-time. We should have played this game to death. Belgium got the upper hand and around minute seventy we got away well a few times,” he added.
