Brighton striker Neal Maupay was delighted with his goal in their 1-1 draw at Southampton.

Maupay struck his equaliser in injury-time at St Mary's.

He said: "Our performance today wasn't top, we struggled. We have one big strength this season, which is that we never give up.

"We couldn't match their intensity in the first half, they were winning every 50-50. We tried to fix that in the second half.

"This was our third game in a week, we've had three injuries, too. Sometimes you can't win, but it's good to not lose.

"I was very, very happy with the goal. It's good to score in the last minute, but I should have scored earlier. Maybe we could have won the game, but I'm still happy with the goal."

He added: "The fans were on me, so when I scored I had to give them some back. It's good to have a bit of fun with them, we've missed them over the last couple of years, it's good to have them back."
