Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Katie Startup has joined Manchester City on an emergency loan deal until the end of the season.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from Manchester City this evening.

Startup joins The Cityzens to help address the club’s current goalkeeping crisis. Manchester City are without Sandy MacIver until early 2025 due to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury while Ellie Roebuck is recovering from a stroke. First-choice keeper Khiara Keating is carrying a knock and it is not yet known if she will be fit to start Manchester City’s next fixture against West Ham United in a week’s time.

Former Chelsea academy graduate Startup is currently the third-choice goalkeeper at Brighton & Hove Albion behind Sophie Baggaley and Melina Loeck. Since signing for The Seagulls in summer 2020, Startup has gone on to make two appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League. She is unlucky not to have had more game time in her career to date with the Sussex side.

Startup will link-up with her new teammates this week as Manchester City prepare to resume their title battle in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Head coach Gareth Taylor is likely to provide an update on the goalkeeping situation at the club when he speaks to the media on Friday afternoon.
