New Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Dario Vidošić says that the challenge to take the club forward was an opportunity that was too good to ignore.

Vidošić was appointed Brighton & Hove Albion’s new boss earlier this month. He will be tasked with helping the club climb the Barclays Women’s Super League table after a couple of difficult campaigns.

When speaking to the media for the first time, Vidošić explained that he got a great vibe from Brighton & Hove Albion from the very first contact he had with the club and that the opportunity to become head coach could not be ignored.

“Why Brighton? It was a message from the club that arrived one evening in Melbourne saying that they wanted to have a conversation,” Vidošić explained. “I was really excited to have that conversation; we spoke about plans for the club, football, life. I got the sense that it’s a great club with fantastic people as well.

“The club’s plans for the future aligned with mine. I’m quite ambitious, I like to take on challenges and this is one of the best challenges in the world, in the best league in the world against some of the best players and coaches. You don’t say no to that and you don’t say no to Brighton. I was super-excited, more excited now and even more excited in two weeks when we get started.”

Going on to discuss his playing style, Vidošić said that he wants his Brighton & Hove Albion side to play attacking football with the aim of winning every time they take to the pitch.

He said “I like to have possession, I like to dominate games, play attacking football. I want my team to play the type of football where the fans want to come and watch the girls play.

“It’s not just about having possession for the sake of possession, we pass the ball around the back and say we had 60% of the possession, it’s with a purpose; we play in the opponents’ half, in front of their goal as much as we possibly can and score as many goals as we can.

“We will prepare every team to win regardless of who we are going to play against.”

Brighton & Hove Albion have brought in players from all over the globe in the current transfer window but Vidošić doesn’t expect his new-look side to have any issues with gelling.

He said “I’m looking forward to it. In regards to that, I’m probably the one that’s the furthest away from Brighton.

“That’s the beauty of football, it’s a world game, there are many different cultures, countries. Even if you can’t speak the language, you can speak football. That’s no different with us, the players are all professional and they all love football. They’ve dreamt of this moment since they were kids to play on the biggest stage and they have that opportunity again, myself as well, I’ve dreamt of playing and coaching on the biggest stage. We all have that in common, so it’s very easy after that.

“We will try to enjoy, work hard and we will have a fun time.”

Vidošić will learn of Brighton & Hove Albion’s challenges in the season ahead when the 2024/2025 Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures are published on Monday afternoon.
