Brighton & Hove Albion are prepared to table a £40 million offer to Liverpool for Harvey Elliott, according to the Evening Standard.
The 22-year-old has struggled for playing time under manager Arne Slot and is now one of Brighton’s top transfer targets this summer.
Elliott made 28 appearances in all competitions last season, contributing five goals and three assists, although most of those outings came off the bench.
Given the recent arrival of Florian Wirtz, Elliott is set for another campaign on the periphery if he remains at Anfield, and he is likely to leave this summer.
The player has repeatedly expressed his love for Liverpool but also hinted at the importance of development through consistent playing time.
While Liverpool have publicly shown no desire to sell, it is believed a bid in the region of £45 million could test their resolve.
Brighton’s interest in Elliott may be influenced by possible departures within their own squad with Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley currently wanted by Newcastle United and Roma respectively.
They have developed a track record of developing young talents and giving them the platform to shine, an approach that will definitely appeal to Elliott at this stage of his career.
Liverpool are set to receive for a £35m windfall from their sale of Jarell Quansah and Elliott’s potential departure would free up more funds for Liverpool.
The reigning champions are still eyeing further reinforcements in the transfer window despite recently taking their summer spending spree close to £200m.
They have agreed a deal with Bournemouth for Milos Kerkez and completed swoops for Jeremie Frimpong and Wirtz.
